"....Man, its been a while since I actually....made something." Yosuke would mutter to himself, sitting at a random desk in the engineering department. This place was a lot bigger than the inner city "Tech departments" that were pretty much one or two rooms filled with scrapped motherboards, soldering irons and wooden creations. It looked like you could tune a damn robot in here, not use it to just cut a wooden board down to size or so you could make a light bulb turn out using those ****** connection wires that barely carried a voltage. He was sitting there with a pencil in his hand, trying to figure out a schematic for a device he was trying to make but....well it was a lot harder when he wasnt making something for himself. He couldnt remember the last time he'd done that.
See, a few days ago, he met this girl called Autumn on complete accident whilst walking around campus thinking about.....nothing. Nothing at all. Nothing at all related to feeling homes----HAHAHAHA That was nothing. Anyway, after his subconcious decided that he had to talk to this girl....in part cause she was lying on the ground crying, she'd mentioned that she couldnt talk normally. At all. She could only talk using her quirk and, when that ran out, she had to write things down. She couldnt even laugh or anything.
So, of course, this gave Yosuke an idea. She'd said she wanted to learn how to use her quirk better so she could talk more, but what if she...got a device that helped her talk without her quirk. That'd mean she wouldnt have to push herself just to have a normal conversation with a person, and it'd probably help her singing too, or something like that. So, Yosuke, the technically minded lad that he was, figured it'd be easy if he just....made it for her. It wasnt like he knew anyone else who could, after all.
There was just one, very, very slight problem. Yosuke had no idea how to make stuff like that. He was more used to working with engines or his own quirk, which was basically an engine in itself. Vocal chords, unfortunatly, did not work like engines. So, Yosuke was pretty much flying by the seat of his pants to make this thing, but he had had...some success so far atleast.
He'd gone through a few ideas, which were sitting right behind him. One was a very obvious text to speech device that, granted, did work, but that was more just to test that he could actually make sound come out of these things. He'd tried making something that actually sat ON your vocal chords, but it took him til testing for him to realise that, oh, maybe jabbing something into her neck might not have been the best idea, given her history. He'd made a modified one that sat on the neck itself and kind of did the same thing, but it was kinda spotty at the moment.
Currently, he was working with a car radio. His thought process was simple: if he could play enough radio sounds through a speaker into a hard drive, then maybe he could use that to mimic a voice. Granted, it meant that you'd be talking in recordings all the time, like a certain transforming robot from a movie from 60-70 years ago, but if Yosuke could pitch shift it enough, then it would sound somewhat like a convincing voice......maybe. He wasnt really having a lot of luck on that front.
Either way, he'd continue to work on his various creations on his own, goggles down with music playing through his headphones. He'd already learned he didnt really have to worry about anyone coming in to check on him or interrupt him cause that needed the room, for a couple reasons. First off, there were multiple rooms like this, but the second, more important reason was that....he might have been the only kid who used these places outside of class. He hadnt seen anyone in here in the past few days, so.....he basically had the place to himself for a good while, he figured.
So, soldering iron in hand, he'd keep working. Eventually one of these things would work properly, right?
